New for Mondays - Monkey See, Monkey Do!

Welcome to Monday! In an effort to make Mondays a little more fun I'm going to start posting my mani's from the Monkey See, Monkey Do Monday Challenge. It's part of a weekly challenge brought to you by the Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge Group. The idea is to recreate a favorite mani you've seen. And I won't  just to be inspired by it, but I'll actually TRY to recreate it. Finally, a reason to rip off other people's nail art... just kidding! (But i do love my pintrest inspiration boards)

Here's mine! Sort of a neon tribal look. pretty fun! I changed the colors slightly, but only because i just got that Nails Inc. pink, and I REALLY wanted to use it ;) I also changed the thumb, because originally I couldn't see it in the picture. i don't know? weird.

The original is done by Nik Jones, I follow her on Instagram, and you should too!
Thanks for the inspiration Nik!

Spring is in the air... and on my nails!

It's spring! and there's nothing you can do about it! i'm shouting it from the rooftops! and by rooftops i mean my nails. cause let's face it, i don't shout anything.

Here's a little background on this mani. Whenever I don't have leopard print on my nails, I want leopard print on my nails. and whenever I do have leopard print on my nails, I like it that way, and I'm happy all day long. DEAL WITH IT.

So this is my RIGHT hand, meaning, yes, I have acquired the skills to paint leopard print with my non dominate hand. pure talent right there. (jk, painting weird squiggly lines is my left hands specialty)

fun fun fun fun. I painted my left hand with more muted/dusty colors. and I like it better. maybe.
I added a matte topcoat to all of these of course! with such dainty little colors, they looked weird glossy... they were just asking to be mattified. ("oh pleeease, Joy! make us matte! we promise we'll look good, you don't need to smother us in Out The Door to hide our flaws!") or something like that...

Okay, that was my quick little nail update. back to packing, moving, and general polish scheming.  (i'm working on making my very first franken polish. but it's adding up to be quiet the investment...)

Purple strokes and glitter

if you don't know this about me yet you must be new to the blog. purple is my favorite color of all time, space and matter. yeah thats right, matter. Also, second thing you need to know, there's always room for glitter.

I had tons of fun doing this little gradient. I started out with the nails completed covered in Anne by Julep. then i took a very soft eyeliner brush, the angled kind, and made fun little strokes with Berry Icecream by Barry M. best! before i did the second and third coats i did the same thing but with Oscar by Julep, to add some sparkle! then 2 more coats/strokes of Berry Icecream. (that's really a great polish name, no?)

seriously fun, because there is no wrong way to do this. try it out!

Berry Icecream, Anne, Oscar

DONT FORGET! enter my giveaway, win polish, lots of polish.

UNICORN MAGIC

"UNICORN FREAKING MAGIC!" was what i started thinking when i sat down to do my nails...Today's challenge from PCF spring challenge.
Slowly but surely i went through all my glitter, and picked out the best unicorn ones. then i picked out a pale pink, you know, cause that's what color unicorns are. then i thought, what if i did a chevron, that's sort of a unicorn horn shape? and I SORT OF forgot to add the glitter. (how do you forget about the glitter?!) but it's still magical to me. enjoy the fun....!

Fashion inspiration to the max

Hello! I've had a bunch of fashion inspiration pics saved in my 'liked' section on pintrest for a while and finally decided to give one a try. i can not tell you who made the dress or anything about it, because it links back to a trumblr, and that is the most confusion blog site i've ever been on.

I LOVE the colors, did my best to pick some matching colors out of my polish collection.

Those triangles were a doozy!

fun stuff! not my best stuff, but it's always fun to try something different.
i'm always tempted to just do a half moon or paint some leopards on my nails, but these new outline or framed nails are a fun challenge!

PCFS: Tiny flowers

Today's challenge was tiny flowers! isn't that such a sweet idea?

I tried to use a tutorial for a new kind of little flower, but i was rushed for time, and couldn't get it to look just how i wanted it. the flower on my index finger came out the closest to being right.

pretty fun!

pretty little purple thing

I had a little fun the other day with stamping and some tape. Yes i have a bunch of new stamping plates, and yes i used the very first one i ever got that everyone uses, Konad m57. a classic? sure, why not.

Base coas of Orly Charged Up, the perfect purple jelly :)

but wait, what's that over Charged Up, it's CND Sapphire Sparkle, ooh ahhh!!

Okay then I taped off my sections, slapped on some black nail polish,
and then stamped my little heart out.

You don't really need to know this, but for the sake of good blogging i will tell you that i was inspired by a certain item from victoria secret to do these patterns/colors together. there. i said it. please tell me you've done this before too!

PS. after i did my nails i realized i was out of acetone. so i went to buy some, and the store was all out. so this here is what you get when that happens. sorry for the mess!

PPS i'm selling some nail polish, among other things on ebay, check it out. fund my summer vacation.

Feather mani Tutorial-ish

Per  a request on instagram here's a slight tutorial on how i did this feather mani. :)

I bought a bag of feathers that look like this at Hobby Lobby. You can probably find them at any craft store! they are really cheap too, for how many you get!

then you cut off the fuzzy part with some cuticle trimmers or i suppose
regular-people scissors could work too.

now your feather looks like THIS!

if you want you can put on a neutral color as a base for the feather and let that dry first! but i just put on some top coat on a naked nail and stuck on the feather immediately. then you can adjust it slightly with some tweezers if you need too. but don't move it around too much or it will get weird looking. :O

then I waited about 20 minutes and put two thick coats of Out The Door on top of it. The feathers seem to suck up the moisture in the topcoats. it looks weird at first, but just keep smothering it in top coat :D

There you have it! i hope you are inspired to try a feather mani of your own, or that you are inspired to try a new random object, and stick that to your finger nail!

Gloomy Joy Gets Happy!

It's been a gloomy week here in Greensboro Gloomsboro, NC. so I created a little spring on my fingernails. i was inspired by this look from Kahtreenahh's tumblr.

Excuse the fact that is my instagram pic, but it gets the point across!

OPI Pink Friday, SH Lavender Cloud, Zoya  Marley, Barry M Mint Green, Orly Flirty.

I used Flirty on my first attempt at little flowers, which turned out looking more like jelly beans, but hey, it's cool!

The dots are from a stamping plate, which is sooo much easier than using a dotting tool!
But also, you can see on my thumb the drawbacks to stamping instead of using dotting tools, the design gets cut off on wider nails. :]
I suppose you could use the stamp as a guide for where to put your dots, yes!

Hope you enjoy a little taste of spring...!
